The initial approach various of the RX-78 to be charcterised (except for the Gundam Mk. II from Zeta Gundam), it helped pave the approach for the coming of alternative variants, such as those from Gundam 0083, as main elements of the plot. In War in the Pocket, the Alex was grown to reinstate the RX-78-2, optimized for increasing greeting time of Newtypes, yet the exam commander was not a Newtype herself
